History of Penang
Penang is a state of Malaysia located on the northwest coast of Peninsular Malaysia near
the Straits of Malacca. It has two parts: Penang Island, where the capital Georgetown is located, and Seberang
Perai (formerly Wellesley) on the Malay Peninsula. Penang is the second smallest land country in Malaysia,
bordering Kedah in the north and east and bordering the south in the south. Currently, Penang is the longest
bridge in Southeast Asia connecting the island to the mainland.
As of 2018, Penang's population was close to 1.767 million and the population density rose
to 1,684 / km2 (4,360 / sq mi). It is one of the countries with the highest population density in the country
and one of the countries with the highest degree of urbanization in the country. Georgetown, the second largest
city in Malaysia, is also home to the UNESCO World Heritage.
